The Riverside Arts Market, in Jacksonville’s historic Riverside/Avondale neighborhood, is my family’s favorite place to spend a Saturday morning.

Each Saturday from March to December, the Riverside Arts Market is held under the bridge on Riverside Avenue alongside the St. Johns River.

The bridge (it's Interstate 95) that provides shade and cover for the market offers visitors a place to shop – and locals say it’s typically 10 degrees cooler under the bridge thanks to the breeze off the riverfront.

During our recent visit, the Arts Market was celebrating Bike Day – with an early-morning bike parage and a crafts area set up for kids to make their own nameplates.

Whether you're shopping for groceries, presents or just a souvenir of your travels, the Riverside Arts Market prides itself in having handmade and local goods.

And if you're hungry, grab some lunch from one of the many local vendors and have a picnic along the riverfront. For fresh, locally grown fruits and veggies, stop by Farmer’s Row.

Check out the video below of our time at the market. From groceries to ice cream and even mermaid tails, it was a great day to be outside with my family.

Tip: When you’re done shopping, be sure to visit the Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens located next door to the Riverside Arts Market. On select Saturdays of the month, they even offer free admission to the museum, so be sure to check their online calendar.
